Importing contacts
You don't have to build your Rolo network from scratch. Import your existing contacts from Google, LinkedIn, Instagram, your phone, or a CSV file — and Rolo will deduplicate, merge, and link them to your existing profiles automatically.
Where to find import options
All import options are available in two places:
People page → toolbar → Import button
Settings → Integrations → scroll to the import section
Import sources
Google unified import
The recommended starting point. Connects to your Google account and imports both your Google Contacts and your Google Calendar events in one flow. Rolo links calendar attendees to the contacts it finds, so you get relationship history from day one.
- 1.Click "Import from Google" in the People toolbar.
- 2.Authorise Google Contacts and Calendar read access.
- 3.Review the import summary — Rolo shows how many new contacts it found and how many it matched to existing profiles.
- 4.Confirm to complete the import.
Google Contacts only
If you only want contacts without calendar data, use the Google Contacts import. This is faster and imports name, email, phone, company, and role from your Google address book.
Phone contacts
Import directly from your device's contact list on mobile. Rolo reads name, phone number, email, and company from your phone's address book. On iOS and Android, you'll be prompted to grant contacts access when you initiate the import.
LinkedIn (manual paste)
LinkedIn doesn't offer a direct API, but you can paste a LinkedIn profile URL or copy-paste the text content of a profile page. Rolo extracts the person's name, headline, company, role, and connection details.
Instagram enrichment
For contacts you're connected to on Instagram, you can add their handle and Rolo will attempt to enrich their profile with public bio information. This requires an explicit approval step — Rolo shows you what it found before saving anything.
CSV import
Have a spreadsheet of contacts? Export it as CSV and import it into Rolo. The CSV can include any column names — Rolo will map them to the correct profile fields. Required: at minimum a name or email column.
- 1.Click "Import from CSV" in the People toolbar.
- 2.Upload your CSV file.
- 3.Map your column names to Rolo fields (Rolo suggests mappings automatically).
- 4.Review the preview — Rolo flags rows that already match existing contacts.
- 5.Confirm to import.
Chrome extension — Instagram & LinkedIn
Rolo ships a Chrome extension that scrapes your Instagram DMs and LinkedIn connections directly from your browser — no API keys or data exports needed.
Installing the extension
- 1.In Rolo, go to Settings → Integrations → Chrome Extension.
- 2.Click "Download extension" to get the install package.
- 3.In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions and enable Developer mode.
- 4.Click "Load unpacked" and select the downloaded folder.
- 5.The Rolo icon will appear in your Chrome toolbar.
Importing Instagram DMs
Navigate to instagram.com/direct/inbox/while logged in. The extension will inject an "Import to Rolo" button at the bottom right. Click it — the extension scrolls through your DM list, extracts usernames, display names, and avatars, and sends them to your Rolo account. You'll see a summary when it's done.
Importing LinkedIn connections
Navigate to linkedin.com/mynetwork/invite-connect/connections/ while logged in. Click the "Import to Rolo" button. The extension scrolls through your connection list (up to 500), extracting names, headlines, profile URLs, and avatars. It uses human-like scroll delays to avoid triggering LinkedIn's rate limiting.
Privacy note
The extension only reads data visible on those pages — it does not access private messages, read your feed, or interact with other Instagram/LinkedIn features. Auth tokens are stored in memory only and cleared when you close Chrome.
Deduplication & merge suggestions
When an import finds contacts that closely match profiles already in Rolo, it flags them as potential duplicates rather than creating new profiles. You'll see a Resolution queue in the sidebar with pending merge suggestions.
For each suggestion, Rolo shows you the two profiles side by side and lets you choose to merge them, keep them separate, or dismiss the suggestion. You're always in control — Rolo never auto-merges contacts.
